Field trip update: Members intending to attend the Honister Slate Mine field trip on the 12th of September can get a reduction to the fee for the guided tour by paying £8.50 to the Field Secretary (Dr. Judith Lawson) prior to the 1st of September ‘10. Attendees who do not wish to pre- book will pay the standard rate of £9.75.

Mineralogical Society one day meeting at the Natural History Museum on Sunday 12 December 2010. 

Start 10.00 a.m. The registration is £20 and includes refreshments and lunch.

Below are the 2010 summer excursions run by our sister society 'The Cumberland Geological Society'

Saturday May 22nd. Anomalies in the Northern Fells. Leaders: Susan and David Beale. Meet at Friends Car Park, Mosedale Meeting House NY 357323 at 10.30 am. A variety of sites looking at rocks not found elsewhere in Lakeland.

Saturday June l2th. Borrowdale Volcanic Group rocks on High Rigg and St John’s in the Vale. Leader: Sue Loughlin (British Geological Survey, Edinburgh). Meet at the Youth Centre at the end of the gated minor road from St John s in the Vale to St. John s Church. NY 305225 at 10. 30 am. Open fell walking.

Sunday June 27th. The Armboth Dyke and Borrowdale Volcanic Group rocks. Leader; Michael Coates (Westmorland Geol. Soc.) Meet in the lakeside car park at Armboth on the minor road along the western side of Thirlmerc (NY 306172)

Saturday July 10th. Rocks, Structure and Landforms around the northern end of Ullswater. Leader: John Rodgers (CGS). Meet at Pooley Bridge on the viewing Terrace just east of the steamer landing stage at 10 am (NY 467242). Park at Pooley Bridge (Pay & Display for 1 hour). The group will then move on to Dacre and Little Mell FeIl.(ascent). Note earlier start at 10 am.
